We are very excited to know that you are interested in learning to play the Great Highland Bagpipes! This instrument carries hundreds of years of tradition in around the world, and more recently in our community of Caledonia, MI. If you put in the time and effort to succeed you will play a major part in the development of this tradition in our community.
Lessons:
As with any activity that is worthwhile there is going to be work involved in guaranteeing your success.
We have group lessons for beginners every Tuesday from 3-4pm. These lessons are FREE, but students must make a commitment to attend.
For students or community members who are unable to attend our Tuesday lessons please use our contacts page to send us a message. Some of our instructors offer flexible times for private lessons.
Equipment:
Practice Chanter - All students will need a practice chanter. We can provide this for you as you begin your Bagpipe journey, however, as your skills progress and you become more involved you will need to buy your own. We use the Gibson R101L - Click here to purchase yours today!
The Practice chanter is an instrument in itself. It is the same as the chanter on your bagpipes and allows you to learn tunes without the difficulty and volume of the bagpipes. It is required equipment for every piper.
Bagpipes - This is a big topic. Please DO NOT order anything before you talk to your instructor, Not every instrument is created equal and if the price is to good to be true..it probably is. Visit a reputable dealer like Henderson's to get some ideas of price and types.
Drums:
The drum corp is a critical component of the Bagpipe Band. Positions are limited by the amount of equipment we own, but we are willing to work with anyone who is interested in learning the unique style and feel of this type of drumming.
